Meet Shelby

Many ask what sparked my interest in pottery. The short answer is my Grandma Margie. Growing up, I remember her handbuilding bakeware, annual Christmas ornaments and everything in between at her kitchen table in my hometown of Birtle, MB. Pottery was a hobby that kept her hands busy and passed the time creatively. Each item she left behind is treasured dearly and appreciated as a result of her time, love and care. They often remind and inspire me to do the same.

 

Since the 90s, pottery has held its appeal in my world. In 2018 I enrolled in my first class at the local art gallery and have been involved with clay ever since. In 2019 Shelby Howard Pottery Company (SHPC) was formed - yes, The Office fans, I started my own pottery company. Over the next year focus shifted towards establishing a self-sufficient home studio in Brandon, MB. I enjoy humour, solitude, music (records) and throwing on the wheel. Rightfully so, the space was named Spinster Studio - the home of SHPC. It has been expanding in my home ever since.

 

My business began as a creative outlet, typically during evenings and weekends, now I dedicate myself to pottery full-time. Each piece is designed with thought and care, and often I will team up with ambitious causes and other small businesses for a circular motion of success and exposure!

 

My pottery has travelled Canada, North America and the world.
